In a video talking about her trip to Malta to wrap up the filming of Sense8, Lana Wachosky (Director of The Matrix, Speed Racer, & Cloud Atlas) said “I feel like I should write an entire script and base it here in Malta.”

And that was all the inspiration we needed. Here are six Netflix-ready shows straight out of Malta.

1. Making a Murderer: Ġiġa

The true(ish) story of the murder that terrified the people of 1960s Malta, and had the rest of us enthralled years later with back-to-back coverage on Xarabank. Even if the show isn’t your cup of tea, it’s all anyone at the office can talk about.

2. Ċarm’d

Three sisters, Carmen, Censina & Christina discover they’ve inherited magical powers from their mother. Watch as they struggle to balance life, vanquishing demons, and dealing with the ghost of their Nanna asking ”Imma, why aren’t you married yet?”

3. Sittax u Tqila

No script needed; we follow the lives of four 16-year-old mothers-to-be as they expect the birth of their children; Shylon, Kayden, Mystique, and Zykaria. Watch as they study for O-levels and lament that this could have all been so easily avoided if they’d had basic sexual education at school.

4. Fresh Prince of Burmarrad

When a couple of guys who were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighbourhood. I got in one little fight and a little scarred, so my mom said, “Madonna tlaqna l’hemm għand iz-ziju Burmarrad.”

5. Malta’s Daredevil

A thrilling superhero crime-drama centered on a young lawyer. Frustrated with the crawling pace of the legal system, he decides to take the law into his own hands. The man is clearly unhinged and resorts to incredible acts of violence to serve his ends. The series ends with him breaking open a marijuana operation in a clash that leaves many people with irreparable injuries. Our lawyer-turned violent aggressor/vigilante gets a suspended sentence; the weed dealers get life in prison and a €2 million fine.

BONUS: Keeping up with the Camilles

Oh wait, that one’s already being made.
