Lawyers Claim Yorgen Fenech Is Being Arrested Illegally As He’s Taken Into Custody For Fifth Time

The lawyers of Maltese businessman Yorgen Fenech are arguing that their client was taken into custody illegally in light of the short time frames between each arrest, his lawyers are arguing today.

It comes after Fenech was placed under arrest again today, his fifth arrest since his first arrest after being caught on a yacht leaving Malta.

An application of habeas corpus – a recourse to report a case of unlawful detention – is set to be filed today, signed by lawyers Marion Camilleri and Gianluca Caruana Curran, his lawyers.

Referring to a case with similar dynamics from 198 under Magistrate J.A. Filletti, the lawyers said that Fenech was not being given effective release, and said the treatment of their client was reminiscent of the 80s.

They noted that his arrest and interrogation today at 9:00 am came less than 24 hours after his release yesterday.

Fenech himself is expected to be taken to court at around noon today.
