Pro-choice group Voice for Choice has set up a demonstration as southern European leaders meet at Castille for a summit.

The small group of women held placards criticising Malta’s strong legislative stance on the criminalisation of abortion.

“Abortion is illegal in all circumstances, no exceptions for rape, incest, or a woman’s life,” one placard said.

“Welcome to Malta where women and girls are just incubators,” said another.

The delegations for the Summit of Southern EU countries are arriving at Castille at 4:00pm with the summit expected to start at 5:30pm. A press conference will be held afterwards at around 7:30 pm.

Abortion remains a highly controversial topic, with the absolute majority providing vociferous opposition to the few pro-choice groups campaigning for a change to legislation.

However, one passerby told the group “well done girls” as they demonstrated by Teatru Rjal.
