WATCH: Man Smashes In Qormi Restaurant Door To Steal Cigarette Machine

In the early hours of Thursday morning, a man broke into a popular Qormi establishment just off the main road leading up to Siġġiewi. The whole thing was caught on the restaurant’s outdoor CCTV camera and uploaded to Facebook later that evening. In less than 12 hours, it got 500 shares, with people desperately trying to help the owners to find the culprit.

It all happened just before 2:15am, when a man approached The Edge, a Qormi kebab house and pizzeria, on foot. In the video, the man can be seen striking the glass door with what looks like a hammer. After about half a minute of hitting and kicking it, he succeeds in breaking it all open and clambering into the restaurant.

A few seconds later, he emerges, carrying an entire cigarette machine. Suddenly, a pickup truck appears on the left of the screen from the direction of the main road, stopping as the driver exists to help the main load the large machine onto the bed. The two speed off.

As the people recording the video (no doubt the worried and angered owners) commented, this restaurant is situated on the corner between two busy main roads, namely Mdina Road and Triq Ġuże Duca. At one point, in fact, the man stops and moves slightly away from the door as a car can be seen driving up the main road on the far left side of the screen.

To make matters worse, the man’s accomplice in the pickup actually reverses down the main road, going the wrong way before quickly turning round to stop in front of the restaurant. This in itself could’ve potentially caused a lot of chaos on the street, or at the very least raised an eyebrow or two.

The commentary goes on to say that, for the rest of the second half of the video, the alarm was actually set off and ringing. When asked whether the Police were informed of the situation, the owners explained that the alarm was actually connected directly to the Police Station, but they arrived on the scene five minutes too late.

If you or anyone you know has any information on this incident, please report it immediately to the police.

In the meantime, share this post to help raise more awareness.
