WATCH: Labour MEP Candidate Releases Campaign Video Fully In German In Pitch To Expat Voters
With over 18,000 expats registered to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections, candidates who manage to tap into that niche would be given a significant shot in the arm.
PL MEP candidate Lorna Vassallo is perhaps better placed than most to reach out to those voters, being fluent in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and Russian, as well as Maltese and English.
And Vassalo is starting to flex her linguistic muscles, releasing a campaign video fully in German in what is an obvious appeal to expats.
It is a word to word translation from her original Maltese campaign video, in which she said that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had cited her linguistic know-how, legal background and experience working in the foreign affairs ministry as assets that will help her campaign.
“A campaign means months of personal and financial sacrifice but I couldn’t ignore my leader’s call,” she said. “It’s an honour that I’ve been given this opportunity and I truly believe that the economic miracle Joseph Muscat has performed in Malta can be transformed into a European and Mediterranean mission.”
