A Maltese jockey passed away yesterday following an accident that occurred during a race in Marsa yesterday.

Condolences and tributes have poured in for Frans Tanti, known as “Il-Bugi”, who took part in yesterday’s racing programme at the Marsa Racetrack in the class Bronze heat.

“Thank you for everything, friend,” a tribute on Facebook read.

Il-Bugi, together with his mare Staro Lets Dance, was involved in an accident during the closing stages of the race.

Despite receiving assistance from a medical team, Tanti appeared in good condition and made his way off the track.

However, reports indicate that he later fainted in the stables and was certified dead on the spot.

The Malta Racing Club has since extended its condolences to the driver’s family.

As of yet, the cause of death has not been revealed.
