Two of Malta’s most insipirational athletes have just come together for a gesture that’ll melt any heart and kick your week off in the best way possible.
Over the weekend, the island’s recordbreaking swimming sensation Neil Agius met the ever-inspirational Jake Vella, giving him the swimming cap he used during the Sicily-Malta swim.
Neil, who is currently being revered as one of the island’s best athletes after completing a gruelling 100-kilometre between the two islands (and finishing ahead of schedule), has often said he looks up to Jake as one of this inspirations. Now, he proved this yet again, meeting the young boy and giving him his cap… signed, no less!
“Jake is one super human and inspired me to keep doing what I love, so giving it to him felt like the right thing to do.”
“It has a great home now,” Agius ended, sharing the adorable news on his personal profile.
Last Saturday, after the heartwarming meeting, Jake, who has been tirelessly training, swimming and participating in triathlons despite having to live with one of the rarest conditions on the planet, took to Facebook to share some photos from the meeting.
“Earlier today, Neil Agius gave me the swimming cap that he was wearing during his ultra distance swim from Sicily to Malta,” the young boy said. “I would like to thank Neil for this gesture.”
No matter what’s happening out there, it’s great to see tiny gestures like this that go a long way into brightening everyone’s day.
