Cosmo Girl: Tiffany Pisani, Ten Years On From Winning Britain’s Next Top Model

A decade ago, Malta was following the sixth season of a British TV show with bated breath.

Young Maltese model Tiffany Pisani was making big waves with her edgy look, noticeable voice and exotic Mediterranean vibe on Britain’s Next Top Model. Hosted by the all-powerful Elle Macpherson, the show was an incredible jumping board for the Maltese export’s modelling and public career.

Ten years on, Tiffany speaks to Lovin Malta about the rollercoaster she was thrown onto since her international debut – and how she’s still getting to grips with having her beloved long hair getting chopped into a pixie crop in front of the world.

“Let’s say I wasn’t very impressed at the time my hair was being chopped off, I felt it was a big part of my personality,” Tiffany laughed as she remembered the infamous moment. “But I am very glad I went along with it now – I can say I’ve had short hair.”

As challenging as some BNTM scenes were, Tiffany looks back at her time on the show fondly.

“I have had an extremely fruitful last ten years and feel very grateful for my experience on the show,” she said. “Winning it definitely gave me a boost in the modelling industry and I was lucky enough to work in over 15 countries afterwords.”

And she’s not lying – she’s since worked with some major brands, including Dove, ASOS, Jimmy Choo, Vogue, Gucci, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Harvey Nichols, Company, Shwarzhopft, Charles and Ron, Tigi, Grazzia and in fashion weeks in Europe, America and Asia.

“One highlight was working on a shoot with supermodel Heidi Klum and acting in the films like Ex Machina and Entebbe.”

And when it comes to the other contestants on the show, she’s made some friends for life.

“I’ve kept in touch with several of them and some will even be coming to our wedding,” she says; Tiffany is a fiancee now, having become engaged with her partner Johan with a date set for next year.

“I will treasure my memories and the people I have met along the way.”

However, it wasn’t all fun and roses during filming of BNTM.

“It is a very tough show,” Tiffany said. “You don’t get much sleep and work very long hours. Filming lasted a few months, and we had no phones or contact with outside world apart from a weekly call to family.”

And when she was officially announced as the season’s winner, things began moving fast.

“I straight away became a full-time working model going to castings, travelling and working on shoots, acting, commercials and fashion shows,” she said.

Over the years, she took time to focus on her other passions: music and animals.

“I try to help out at MSPCA and Animal Guardians Malta and I love to collect and play music of all genres. I adore animals and feel they need all the extra help they can get at the moment due to COVID-19 even more!”

Tiffany even got booked to DJ at one of the biggest music festivals around, Glastonbury, in the subsequent years since her appearance.

However, COVID-19 is major concern in her line of work.

“COVID-19 has definitely changed my day-to-day routine but I generally wake up, have breakfast, go for a long walk and then start my day depending on what job I have as I am a freelancer and with Island Talent Agency,” she said.

Looking back at the benefits she gained from her appearance, as hard as it was, she doesn’t see any reason why young up-and-coming models and artists shouldn’t participate in these kinds of talent shows.

“I think reality shows have become more common today and I am grateful for participating in the one when I did,” she ends. “I wouldn’t change a thing!”
