Ever wondered what music Prime Minister Joseph Muscat listens to in his spare time? If so, then Malta’s national orchestra has lined up an event to assuage your curiosity.

The Malta Philharmonic’s Orchestra’s concert, which has been scheduled for 24th February at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, is being organised by the Office of the Prime Minister.

“What music does the Prime Minister listen to?” the event page reads. “In this unique concert for the MPO, the audience will find out just that, with orchestral arrangements of some of his favourite songs. Expect a varied selection of pop and rock tunes, from decades-old timeless hits to more contemporary works.”

The concert is already being panned on social media, with Corinne Vella – the sister of assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia – describing it as something straight out of North Korea and Net TV presenter Frank Psaila calling it “the cult of the leader”.

It was also ripped to shreds by blogger-journalist Manuel Delia, who said it is “really sickening that so many people are willing to pretend this emperor [Joseph Muscat] is wearing clothes even as he parades naked wearing nothing but huge hermetically sealed headphones and The North Face padded sleeveless waist coats.”

The Malta Philarmonic Orchestra is led by musical director Sigmund Mifsud, who contested the 2013 and 2017 elections as a Labour Party candidate.
