Malta’s first official Fortnite champion was crowned last night, and it is none other than 20-year-old Anton Saliba.

Anton, who goes by the tag CracKeD_Gounggツ, was the overall winner by the end of the Fortnite tournament that went down at Playcon at MFCC in Ta’ Qali over the weekend.

Finals kicked off at 4pm, with the final match starting at 4:45, as tens of players try to land as many kills as possible, all while battling hard to remain the last survivor in the game.

Many players spent most of the game in defensive mode, creating intricate structures to stay safe… which meant that chaos was unleashed when the storm finally closed in, bringing the final game to an unexpected and quick end.

After the points were tallied – players were scored on their survivability as well as their kills – Anton was officially crowned Malt’s Fortnite champion, with Technology Minister Silvio Schembri there to give him his award, plus a €5,000 cheque.

€10,000 in prize money was given out to a total of 16 Fortnite players.

Malta’s first Fortnite tournament has come to an end, but Malta’s first proper esports convention may have just opened up a new chapter in local entertainment for local gamers.

With everything from Smash Brothers Brawl to Tekken 7 to League of Legends, as well as several VR applications and a coding corner, on offer, be prepared to see these events grow in size year by year.
