The Malta Customs Department have seized some 60kg of pure cocaine in cream form, in what it claimed was the first haul of its kind in Europe.

The Customs Departments said its officials had flagged a container for inspection after growing suspicious of its route from South America to the Middle East.

The container was found to contain 532 drums of waterproofing liquid and further manual inspections revealed six of them contained plastic bags with a white substance in past form. Forensic inspections revealed this paste was actually cocaine, with a purity of 100%.

“Due to its level of purity, the seizure is conservatively calculated to have a street value between €9 million and €11 million when added with other agents,” the Customs Department said.
