On the same day a Maltese man was caught with 231kgs of cannabis in Sicily, a 26-year-old Maltese man was caught with 46kgs of cannabis in the Coast Road in Ba?ar i?-?ag?aq last night, the Drug Squad announced.

The Maltese youth is set to be arraigned in court today.

The police said the youth’s car was searched on the Coast Road, where a cardboard box was found with around 40kgs of cannabis bud, as well as 6kg of cannabis resin (hash). They said the drugs were packaged and ready to be trafficked.

A Magisterial inquiry has been opened, and the man has been remanded in custody.

The legalisation of cannabis in Malta is currently being discussed, with the island having legalised medical cannabis back in 2018.
