Clash Of The Leaders: Joseph Muscat And Adrian Delia To Debate For The First Time
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will debate Opposition leader Adrian Delia for the first time next month ahead of the upcoming European Parliament and local council elections.
The long-awaited debate will be held on Xtra on 2nd May and will be moderated by Saviour Balzan.
It will be the first time the Maltese public will get to see how Delia, often praised for his oratory skills and charm, performs against Muscat, who has so far proven to be an indomitable electoral force.
Since his election as PN leader in 2017, Delia has regularly challenged Muscat to a televised debate
However, the Prime Minister has consistently ignored his calls, prompting the PN media to accuse Muscat of being scared of facing Delia.
The PL is currently trouncing the PN in the polls and is widely expected to snatch at least one of the PN’s three MEP seats in next month’s election. A recent survey by Lovin Malta found that public support for PL currently stands at 43.8%, while support for PN currently stands at a mere 23.8%.
This would mean that an election would see PL triumph by an eye-watering 74,000 votes, more than double the margin with which it beat PN in the 2017 general election.
