Chris Birdd might be a household name when it comes to Maltese fans of hip hop, but to his loved ones, he’s still 22-year-old Christopher Mizzi. Sticking true to his roots, the young rapper took to Facebook today to make a very special dedication to his mother the way he knows best… through his music.

Birdd’s latest track, Wait For Me, is about, as he himself puts it, his “idol”, and “the only one that I adore”. Running just over two minutes, the track sees Birdd show his gratitude to his mother, who he says showed him “how love conquers all”. The music video mixes shots of Birdd along with some photos from his past, featuring of course Mama Birdd herself.

“I didn’t want to send flowers or a gift this year, I wanted to create something timeless,” Chris told Lovin Malta. “On such an important day like Mother’s Day, I just want to let her know how much she means to me and set a reminder of how beautiful she is, inside and out.”

Echoing this message, Wait For Me ends with one simple message from the young Maltese rapper: “Every day should be Mother’s Day. I love you.”

Chris Birdd is currently living in London, making a name for himself and amassing hundreds of thousands of plays. He might be four years into his London adventure, but it sounds like he’s only getting started. And if that means venturing out of his current comfort space one more time, then so be it.

“A lot more music, visuals and shows are in the works,” he told Lovin Malta. “My time in London is coming to an end as I’ll be leaving the U.K. to move to California. I’ll also be spending some time in Toronto.”
