Here’s How You Can Quench Your Insatiable Thirst For Proper Maltese Orzata

Article Featured Image

People are delighted when they are offered Orzata during summer — up until the moment they see the store-bought bottle of almond squash-jizz nanna keeps in her cupboard.

We at Lovin Malta have brought you this simplified Orzata recipe to satisfy your almond cravings… and add those bonus homemade points to your drink (and reputation).

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg Sugar
  • 2 litres of Water
  • 500g Almond flour
  • 8 Cloves
  • 100g Coconuts shredded
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Almond essence
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • Tinned milk
  • and of course, half a lemon

Grab those cloves and stick them inside your lemon without getting any juice in your corneas.

Combine the water, almond flour, sugar, coconut shreds and cinnamon stick in a large pot. Don’t forget to throw in your clove-d up lemon.

The lemon is ready for the next step, and so are you.

Slowly bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.

Add almond essence and vanilla essence to the simmering mixture.

Let it cool completely before you try anything stupid. Watch TV or something. You can let it sit overnight too if you feel like it too.

Strain the mixture using a cheesecloth.

Add two teaspoons of milk to it and stir well.

Proset, you did it.

Now don’t forget to dilute this sugary monstrosity with either water or milk. We also like adding rum or vodka to it. Or both, don’t judge us.

Feel free to experiment with other ingredients and see what comes out.
