Heading To Floriana For Isle Of MTV This Year? Here’s What You Need To Do To Make Sure You’re Ready
June is finally here, and that can only mean on thing. On Wednesday the 27th, MTV will soon be yet again gracing Malta with some hyped artists from all over the word. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Jason Derulo will be headlining along with the likes of Hailee Steinfeld, Sigala, Paloma Faith and Ella Eyre.
Here’s a short list for what to expect for first-timers, and MTV veterans alike to help you get ready for one of the biggest festivals to hit the islands.
1. Don’t forget that you need a ticket for this year’s festival
As part of a bid to increase security and monitor attendance, this year’s Isle of MTV will actually require attendees to register for a ticket. Don’t worry though; entrance is still absolutely free.
Ticket specialists Ticketmaster will be taking care of the procedure, which will start two weeks before Isle of MTV; next Wednesday. There, fans will have the option to pre-register for the event, which will be open for two weeks prior to the official ticketing launch. Those fans that choose to pre-register will be able to apply for ticket registration 48 hours before the official launch, and will also enter into a ballot for the opportunity to win a pair of VIP tickets to the event. A maximum of 4 tickets per individual can be applied for.
2. If you’re stuck on choosing an outfit, here’s what you need to remember
– It’ll be the last week of June.
– It starts before the sun even comes down.
– There’s going to be tens of thousands of people.
Think intense summer heat and plan for it accordingly.
3. Go early if you want a good place
With regards to previous Isle of MTV shows, the main acts generally start around 7pm. However, unless you have any form of tickets, it’s always a good idea to go a couple of hours before. For those big fans or anyone looking for a good spot, the earlier you go, to easier time you’ll have getting to the front and seeing the stars up close.
Not to mention you’ll have a chance to listen to the Maltese acts opening the show!
4. Study the music
Learn the songs
If you want to have a great time and really join in on the hype and excitement, knowing the lyrics and shouting them with your favourite singer is always going to be an incredible experience.
Hit up the lyrical music videos a few days before, and you should be good.
5. Get ready for the crowds
For experienced festival goers, you know what we’re talking about.
For first-timers, get ready to be nudged, barged and pushed around. Get ready to see people really vibing and going crazy for the music. Relax and enjoy; it’s all in good fun.
6. Water, water water
Jumping and shouting for about four hours is no joke.
It’s fun for sure, but expect to get tired. Make sure you have some form of sustenance to keep yourself going. You’ll need some water to stay hydrated, but don’t forget what happens after digesting too many liquids.
7. Prepare for bad reception
Don’t be surprised if you don’t have a signal in the middle of the thousands of people. Like you, everyone around you will be trying to place calls throughout and especially after the event is over. It’s an issue every year, so make sure you come with a plan for after the party.
8. Have your battery charged and ready
You’re going to be using your phone a lot.
You’ll be recording, Boomeranging, snapping and story-ing everything going on in front of you for the next few hours. We’re too social media needy, and we accept that. Having a portable charger can never hurt, unless you think you’ll end up throwing it at that tall guy in front of you.
Having said that, do try to enjoy the show while using your actual eyes?
9. Make transport arrangements
Make sure you’ve got a way to get there and back.
Take it for granted that there will be traffic, and getting into and out of Valletta is going to be a bit of a nightmare. Parking places are always going to be hard to come by. Don’t forget about the Sliema ferry, or maybe having your car parked in Valletta from the morning.
And above all, don’t forget public transport. The service will be working on overtime on the big night.
